The circuit came within a whisker of hosting a Grand Prix this year when the Chinese GP was cancelled in December (due to Covid measures). Portugal was momentarily in the running as a replacement but organisers decided to drop the date from the F1 calendar altogether.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;It would have been the AIA’s third time hosting an F1 race.
